The two cycle oil should be a JASCO rated oil (FB, FC or FD). The oil has only one chance to properly lubricate the piston, rings and cylinder before being burned off during combustion. Oil is critical to operation of the two-cycle engine. If the oil is mixed too rich, you can cause carbon build up on the piston, cylinder head combustion area or behind the rings. This buildup can cause the rings to stick and will result in poor engine performance. Also, the use of stale fuel will cause cylinder and piston damage to your saw by causing ring sticking, poor lubrication and spark knock (pre-detonation). Pre-detonation in a chain saw engine will destroy the piston in a short period of time and usually results from low octane or old stale premixed fuel. We recommend using gasoline that is 90 octane or higher in your saw once you have installed your new Poulan 2000 Piston & Cylinder Kits. You should also shake your chain saw's mixed gas before refueling your chain saw. Another proven tip is to give the saw a good shake before staring it to ensure fuel and oil is mixed properly. The gas should be fresh (not older than 60 days) and stored in an air tight container.

A properly adjusted carburetor along with the proper gasoline/two cycle mix will help cool the engine. A lean running two cycle engine will overheat causing Poulan 2000 piston and cylinder damage. Also, an air leak will cause an engine to run extremely hot and will almost certainly cause extreme damage to the piston and cylinder.

2- Casting - Before coating, all Performance Saw Supply cylinders are put through 13 preliminary tests to ensure proper tolerance. The cylinders are then coated to ensure maximum penetration, thickness and coverage. Coating thickness is .04-.063 mm of chrome which increases the life of the cylinder. Certain cylinders are NiSi [Nikasil] plated which wears extremely well in two cycle engines.

3- Machining - Complete machining of all cylinders is performed by accurate CNC tool machines.

4- Die-Casting - All cylinders are made by slow gravity fed Die-casting. This increases the weight of the cylinder which enhances the performance and life of the rebuild.

5- Toolings - Each cylinder tooling has limited life and is replaced after the manufacturing of 50,000 pieces. All tooling is checked on a monthly basis.

6- Quality Control - Special inspection is done on every cylinder inlet and exhaust port which includes chamfering of all burrs. Every 20th cylinder that comes off of the production line is thoroughly inspected for accurate tolerances. Note: Some cylinders may only need honing to clean up the cylinder bore and a new piston and ring assembly instead of a cylinder assembly.

Note: Nisi[Nikasil] cylinders can not not be honed or cleaned up using sand paper. Nikasil coating penetrates into the aluminum [Liquid Nickel and Silicone] and the hone will remove the coating process exposing bare aluminum.
