THE MAKING OF SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST

Behind the scenes with the SCARBEE team

Scarbee Funk Guitarist

THOMAS SKARBYE - SAMPLING SPECIALIST

Thomas Skarbye is a Danish sample-master. His products for NATIVE INSTRUMENTS are consistently innovative and authentic. Skarbye's almost compulsive attention to detail has earned him a formidable reputation in the industry.
On SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST:
'This project was like nothing else we've ever made - it's like 10 times everything else. I mean, we actually built a sequencer - with artificial intelligence - inside Kontakt!! How crazy is that? We put so many smart rules into SFG to make it sound perfect. Occasionally I had to take a few hours off and go for a walk in the country - it was on these 'relaxing' walks that I often came up with ideas for new features or solutions.'

Scarbee Funk Guitarist Review

SOREN REIFF - GUITARIST

Soren Reiff, aside from being a musical director for Danish TV and solo artist, is a busy session guitarist. He's worked with top-calibre international artists, including David Sanborn, Chaka Khan, Mark King, Robert Palmer, Tower of Power, Randy Crawford, Paul Young and Thoots Thielemanns.
On SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST:
'I've always felt I was in good shape and had fine guitar chops, but these recordings were so hard physically - I've never done anything like it. At times I had to get massages several times a week so my back, shoulders, hands and arms didn't get damaged. Sometimes we even forgot to eat because we were all so engaged in the process! But we also laughed a lot.'

NILS LIBERG - SCRIPTING

Nils Liberg - SCARBEE Script Wizard - has worked with Thomas Skarbye on a number of sampled instruments including SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST,ALICIA’S KEYS and SCARBEE MM BASS.
On SCARBEE FUNK GUITARIST:
'Without any hesitation, I can say that this is the biggest and most complex project I have been involved in. The spreadsheets that Thomas and Sören used to describe chords and sample data contained tens of thousands of manual entries. The user-interface was a challenge and required a lot of new elements that are not natively supported by Kontakt - a mini-sequencer, tab controls, listboxes, and modal dialog boxes.'
