  • Aug 13, 2019 WOLF RPG Editor is a game construction tool that can create complex role playing games. It is often regarded as being aimed at advanced users, so keep this in mind if you intend to use it. It was developed by SmokingWOLF (SilverSecond) in Japan.

Hello! Just figured I would start a thread here surrounding Wolf RPG Editor, considering I have yet to find one and English users are very minimal with information and tricks regarding this engine. (I have a lot I would like to learn as well!)

Translator is a game translation tool. It helps translator to translate game from several major game engine such as RPG Makers & Wolf RPG Editor. This tool is fully in GUI and equipped with convenient tools crafted to improve your translation experience.

It's an engine that works like RPG Maker, but it's completely free! The only downside would be that those who don't understand Japanese can't easily find special tricks since the official forum is...well, Japanese.

  • You can download it here: https://www.moddb.com/engines/wolf-rpg-editor/downloads
  • The Official Website/Forum can be found here: click here!
  • The translated manual can be found here: click here!
  • And lastly, the only (English) Youtube channel that covers some tricks on the engine can be found here: click here!

That being said, I highly recommend that you explore through the manual and Youtube channel before you begin discussing here!

I hope this will help someone around here, especially since these were the only pieces of information I was able to find online. A translator would be very useful, especially since the official site provides so many custom common events that are unreadable.

Anyways, feel free to talk ahead, I will try my best to answer as much as I can, but I won't be able to answer a lot because of my own lack of knowledge.

Wolf RPG Editor is a Game Maker program. Similar to RPG Maker, it enables users to easily create their own Role-Playing Games. It was developed by SmokingWOLF and first released in Japan on 24th December 1998. Velella Himmel (vgperson) and Jeffrey Casey (Widderune) provided an English translation. The latest English-language version is Wolf RPG Editor 2.24Z.

Unlike RPG Maker, Wolf RPG Editor is free to download, although some have noted it is more difficult to navigate than RPG Maker unless you're an experienced user; another barrier is that the official website is only available in Japanese, so unless you're fluent in this language accessing tips and help with the program can be challenging. Wolf RPG Editor is only available for download onto Windows (the same goes for games made with the program, as they have to be opened with .exe files), although there is software available that allows you to open the program and associated games on Mac.

Despite its title, the program has been used to create non-role-playing games as well, much like RPG Maker, with Horror Video Games being particularly popular.

The English version can be downloaded here or here. For help with translating the program, see here.

Games made with Wolf RPG Editor include:

  • Purgatory
    • Purgatory 2
  • Strange Men Series
